The end of the summer and onset of autumn has been marked by early season snowfall in the Sierra Nevada. Reports suggest up to 40cm new snow fell on Saturday and Sunday. There is some drifting. The snow is wet and heavy, giving risk of avalanches. About 15 to 20cm new snow fell last few days. The wind has blown some of this into N and NE facing slopes where major drifting has occurred. Care should be taken. The skiing has improved dramatically and is excellent at the moment. Further light snowfall expected today. Avalanche risk 3.

 

Raining heavily in Lanjaron this morning so expect moderate snowfalls above 2250m during the day. Further snow report on Wednesday when we are up in the Sierras.
