Video from our Patagonian Icecap Expedition 2011

This year our expedition was blessed by windless and sunny conditions, unusual on the Patagonian Icecap. A far cry from the year before. We managed to complete the full itinerary and had some of the most amazing mountain and wilderness views any of us had ever seen.

Our latest video addition is a recovery operation from a scratched DVD, showing our 2006 Traverse of the Southern Patagonian Icefield. This tour which we try to run every 2 years in November and December circles the Cerro Torre and Fitzroy massifs.

I remember we had camera troubles on the trip. Both video cameras broke and some digital still cameras got wet or failed in the cold. However, interesting editing effects and an annoying computer generated narrator, called Paul, add interest to the marvelous photos and the dramatic scenery. Some great music too. The definition is not great at times, but the video does convey the isolation of the icefield.

When I re-ran the 20 minute video I immediately was inspired to return to this wonderful part of south America. The sense of isolation when on the icefield itself can never to be forgotten. It is the closest you can get to an Antarctic experience without actually going there. Can’t wait to get back!

Clients will be met at El Calefate airport anytime between 15th and 16th November. On the 17th we head off to El Chalten for the start of our expedition onto the Patagonian Icecap. Return dates will be 5th or 6th December. Email for more details.
