New snowfall last weekend. Great alpine skiing and ski touring.
The weekend of 11th and 12th April saw up to 50cm of new snowfall in places in the Sierra Nevada. The ski centre reported 30 to 40cm. This overlays the considerable accumulations already there.

These photos were taken mid-June after a poor (relative) winter’s snowfall! The temperatures in Granada were above 30 deg C at the time.
There are three options when travelling between the Cariguela and Elorietta huts in Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountains:

Conditions on the north
The recent heavy rain and high temps has washed out snow cover below 2700m. Above 3000m there has been some significant falls of wet snow. Yesterday and overnight the freezing levels dropped considerably so that there is now extensive icing. Further low temps today and tomorrow should help consolidation.

The normally snowsure slopes of the Caballo are much worse after the recent 1.5 weeks of sun. There is some skiing but a long walk in via Fuente Fria is required.
