Warm temperatures bring snow and avalanche dangers

Some spanish friends are reporting dangerous avalanche prone conditions with cracks appearing in the snowpack due to the high temperatures. New snowfall last weekend. Great alpine skiing and ski touring.

The recent heavy rain and high temps has washed out snow cover below 2700m. Above 3000m there has been some significant falls of wet snow. Yesterday and overnight the freezing levels dropped considerably so that there is now extensive icing. Further low temps today and tomorrow should help consolidation. Ski touring – still poor. The normally snowsure slopes of the Caballo are much worse after the recent 1.5 weeks of sun.  There is some skiing but a long walk in  via Fuente Fria is required.
