Walking across the Sierra Nevada in a day
Spain’s Sierra Nevada is a big range normally associated with multi-day trekking excursions. There are however some great day treks to be had crossing the range from north to south. The advantage of a north to south crossing is that you can take advantage of high summer access via the ski centre thus reducing greatly [...]

Snowshoeing on Veleta in deep snow
With few access tracks to the Sierra Nevada open we had to settle for the usual route up Veleta from above the ski town in the Sierra Nevada. The snow level was about 1500m. We parked the car at the Hota de la Mora (2500m) and set off, immediately requiring snowshoes to aid progress.
We made [...]
High winds on Veleta as we wait for the snow
The ski area above 1900m has some snow cover with about 25cm snow at the Hoya de la Mora and some drifting. The high winds built continuously during the day, as can be seen from this photo of Veleta with the Virgin of the Snows in the foreground.
The multi-layered lenticular clouds indicate not only high [...]

We were rock climbing at Alfacar today but were rained off at 3pm when the rain started again. [...]
