Shot on 13th April 2009 from Majalijar at 1887m in the Sierra de Huetor. Although cloud covers the major summit the photo Just shows how much snow remains on the high peaks. Snow level about 2000m.

Sierra de Huetor walking opportunities north of Granada
The area is quiet and unspoilt. The photos and maps below were taken on the long west to east ridge of Majalijar 1887m. This covers some 4 main tops with great views southwards to the northern Sierra Nevada mountains.

Exploratory trip new climbs
Our trip to explore new routes in the Huetor found nothing new worth doing at the present time. Dennis, Clive and I had a go at a likely line but found it steep and loose, eventually having to abseil off. Nevermind, better look next time! Photo below showing Dennis leading
Loads of Snow!
The recent heavy rain followed by Sunday evenings low temperatures left a large covering of the white stuff down to about 1800m. This has since retreated uphill but the whole situation for skiing and snowshoeing is much brighter. Above 2500m there is good cover and above 2750m, deep snow.
