Trekking
An uneventful day walking up the Cerro de Caballo
Yesterday’s walk up one of our favourite Sierra Nevada mountains, the Cerro de Caballo (3009m) turned out to be the least eventful. The summit was more reminiscent of Scafell Pike on a bad day than the Sierra Nevada. But we had a good day nevertheless!
Climbing Mulhacen in marginal conditions for Motor Neurone Disease
Katie Porter and Simon Register recently ascended Mulhacen raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease. Our guide Mike Elston, helped them to reach the summit over 2 days staying overnight at the Poquiera hut
Trekking the Tabernas Desert Badlands Movie
On our latest trek into the desert badlands around Tabernas, Almeria it rained. Typical! A good day was had by all however, and the scenery consisting of ravines, escarpments and cliffs was spectacular.
The region is famous for it’s place in movie history as the area where the spaghetti westerns were filmed. We have made a [...]
Walking across the Sierra Nevada in a day
Spain’s Sierra Nevada is a big range normally associated with multi-day trekking excursions. There are however some great day treks to be had crossing the range from north to south. The advantage of a north to south crossing is that you can take advantage of high summer access via the ski centre thus reducing greatly [...]

West ridge of the Puntal de la Caldera, Sierra Nevada
The attractive peak of the Puntal de la Caldera (3223m) with the Laguna de la Caldera nestling at it’s feet makes a spectacular setting. Many times in winter during Alpine Winter Skills Training courses we have sat atop it’s narrow summit after ascended via it’s east ridge from the Collado del Ciervo. A fine route, [...]

Video of 6 day trek over the Sierra Nevada main ridge
This group completed “Los Tres Miles” and then decided to walk some more! They walked from Lanjaron in the Alpujarras to the Purta de la Ragua, near La Calahorra (Guadix) in 6 days covering all the major 3000m peaks in the range (27!).
Along the way they slid down snow slopes into icy mountain lakes, completed [...]
New trail between Alcazaba and Vacares saves much time and re ascent
Last summer some local spaniards developed a new walking trail between Alcazaba and the Puntal de El Goteron and Puntal de Vacares ridge. The old route meant a long diversion round the Loma de la Alcazaba involving much time and height loss (600m). With the passing of the winter snows the route is now open [...]
