Climb Nevados de Cachi in the Puna de Atacama, Andes

Around the Salta and Jujuy regions in north west Argentina lie some of the Andes highest peaks. These are mountains for all, but predominately for the modest mountaineer who wishes to tackle technically easy mountains but at high altitude. They are an excellent training area if you aspire to some of the himalayan giants. The mountain of Nevados de Cachi is one such peak!

The approach to Nevados de Cachi

At 6380m in height and perhaps one of the most beautiful mountains in the north of Argentina, with the possibility of two different routes to reach two of it´s 9 summits. Nevado de Cachi, also known as Libertador or San Martin, is the most important range in Salta and has an incredible amount of acheological findings, at it’s base, it’s slopes and even on it’s summits! First ascent was in 1950. We have 2 routes to the summit, via “Las Cuevas” or via “Las Pailas”. Both take 7 days to achieve.

Route itineraries for “Las Pailas” and “Las Cuervas”
Effort required: Medium/High
Technical difficulty: Low
See our Google Earth Nevado de Cachi mountain tour.

Only 4 clients are required to run a trip to these startlingly barren, remote, high, but incredible mountains. We run these mountain ascents in conjunction with our friends in Argentina, Puma Expeditions, experienced and knowlegeable local guides. These are some of the best value trips going so early reservation is encouraged.

Dates: Mid-September to end March

€ 900. Price Includes:
- All meals while ascending and coming back down to Cachi
- Mountain tents
- Guiding fees
- Emergency oxygen tanks
- VHF radios
