Really interesting post by Rafael Quintero, guardian, Poqueira hut. Great photos show lastest conditions in the Sierra Nevada and the latest state of the huts. Evidently they have now dug into the Caldera refugio and this is now usable again.

Hi,
Here are the photos of Friday 19/03/2010
2500 mt down on Saturday afternoon it is raining. Snow is expected from this altitude to the summit area during the next 24 hours
The bivouac of the Caldera, hard to find, with snow in the interior, puddles and leaking
The state of North Mulhacen: not very desirable, non-compacted wet snow
Access recommended for Refuge: Acequia Alta, may leave their car at the intersection of the canal high with the track leading up to the Hoya del Portillo
Power Plant Road La Cebadilla: impracticable

Un Saludo. Rafael Q.

    Un buen blog, sin duda.

Verdaderamente impactante la cantidad de nieve que se puede observar en las fotos. Sobre todo el Refugio de La Caldera, completamente tapado por la nieve…
