The photograph below of the north west face of Alcazaba (3371m) was taken yesterday in a brief lull between bad weather fronts. Hardly any rock shows through. The line of the Espolon de Alcazaba is clearly seen, highlighted by the shadows behind.
Bad weather will continue to bring moderate falls of snow over the next week and foreseeable future. Check out our mountain weather forecasts page for details. Blizzard conditions will exist with severe wind chill of -20+ forecasted.
The ski area is full of snow. All runs are complete. Having said that the uplift for the next week is certain to be affected by high winds and blizzard conditions. Check the Sierra Nevada Ski website for up to date status of lifts and runs open.
A new weather forecast is being provided by http://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Mulhacen/forecasts/3482. We have yet to acertain the validity of the new service but if sister company snow-forecast.com is anything to go by then it shouild be a useful addition to the mountain weather predictions for the Sierra Nevada. There is no doubt we are in for a bad spell again. Bad news as it keeps us from the big hills. Good news is that when it clears, snow consolidate and the avalanche dangers recede then we shall have some amazing conditions! The ski touring and backcountry skiing opportunities should be perfect with long descents available. Good snowshoeing in the forests should also exist as freezing levels are low.
