Heavy snow all week until 27th December above 2700m brings avalanche dangers

The predicted unsettled weather has arrived and it has been steadily pouring down now for the past two days. The forecast for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the high mountains shows no improvement. The snow will be accompanied by high winds, some of between 150km and 190km per hour are predicted over the festive period. Sunday 27th conditions will improve but leave avalanche dangers.

Freezing levels will fluctuate between 2000m and 2700m. Above 2700m there will be a considerable amount of new snow, maybe up to 2m in certain leeward slopes. Avalanche dangers will exist. Bear in mind the avalanche black spots of the Sierra Nevada! Snowshoes or skis may be required for progress.

Check on the Mulhacen Summit weather forecast before venturing out. We have a group going to the Poqueira Hut 27th for 3 days and will give further updates on the snow and mountain conditions then.

I am due to arrive in Sierra Nevada tomorrow night, I have heard that due to high winds and rain that the run and lifts are closed. Could you update me on this if possible? Also could you update me on the avalanche situation aswell as this has scared me a little bit! Thanks
