The access via the Poqueira gorge and Cortijo Tomas, to the Poqueira hut has been affected by landslips and flooding. Several sections of the normally good path have fallen away. The river has burst it’s banks in many places and some bridges have been washed away. Until a new path re-establishes itself then be prepared for detours. A certain amount of resilience is also necessary!
Poqueira Hut
The normal ascent to the hut from the Cebedilla hydro station, above Capileira takes 4 hours. With the diversions necessary to avoid problems this now will take between 5 and 6 hours. A better route may be found (at the moment! see note below) by using the higher “acequias” route or the Hoya del Portillo to access the hut.
N.B in normal winters the best, most sheltered route to the hut is via the Poqueira Gorge. The other two routes via the acequias and Hoya del Portillo, when affected by snow and ice, are more exposed, longer and you may well have car access problems through the forest.
