It has been historic season. The ski company, CETURSA has just released the data for the last winter season 2008/2009
The number of skiing days has been 148 days, with an average of 67 km of downhill runs open. A major upswing after the last two dreadful years, where the snow has been sadly lacking.
The increase in the number of people that have come to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada has been a direct result of this. While not the best season ever, it was up 33% compared to the past few years. The season 2008/09 shows a total of 1,112,427 visitors, including skiers and non skiers. This figure is surpassed only by the records of 2003/04 (1,252,961) and 2002/03 (1,144,301). This has more relevance if one takes into account the context of economic recession.
The Sierra Nevada has demonstrated its importance in the economy of Granada.
