After several unsettled days we have had half a metre of new snow in the mountains. The strong winds have blown this snow of ridges and faces into the valleys and accummulations here are considerable. Avalanche dangers exist here where new snow overlays old compacted snow and ice.
The strong winds and some further precipitation will continue for today (5th) and tomorrow (6th). Gusts of over 140kmh are predicted on Mulhacen! Further snow above 1800m.
The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and the forthcoming days is steadily improving marked by a drop in wind speeds, rising temperatures and lack of precipitation. With quickly rising temperatures in the next few days consolidation of the snowpack should be quite rapid.
