A mountaineer fell from under Mulhacen yesterday after slipping on sheet ice. During the slide he lost his ice axe and helmet whilst falling some 400 metres. The mountaineer suffered broken leg and several other injuries. It is thought he fell on the west flank which is extremely icy at the moment (see our report a few days ago on current mountain conditions).

He was taken by helicopter to Santa Fee where he was transferred to hospital in Granada. Let us hope he makes a full recovery.
