November and the first part of December has seen the lowest average temperatures in Granada since 1961. Average temperatures of 7.9 deg were recorded compared to the historical figures of 10.7 deg.
The heavy snows have had a big impact too. The photo on the right shows snow covering the cars at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, which is having it’s best opening to a season for many years.
The Puerto de la Ragua crossing was closed yesterday to traffic between kil³metros 16 and 30 on the A-337 due to accumulations of snow and patches of ice. Chains are essential.
It was also necessary to use chains on cars crossing the A-395 outside the town of Monachil, between kil³metros 12 y 39.
The snow is down to about 1000m in places on the north side of the Sierra Nevada and 1400m on the south,
