Mulhacen, highest point in mainland Spain seen from Alcazaba

It may be 40 deg C in Granada during the day, but on the summit of Mulhacen at 10am we needed fleeces and windproof outer clothing as well as warm hat and gloves!

The clarity of the air was superb and it only became uncomfortably hot on our descent to the ranger station at the Hoya del Portillo (2150m), above Capileira.

If you are thinking of an ascent of Mulhacen, or any excursion above 3000m in the Sierra Nevada for that matter, in the next few months then have a look at the Sierra Nevada Weather Forecasts before you go. We can get violent electric storms building in the afternoons. Start early and finish early is our recomendation.
