Ski Mountaineer Killed In Avalanche!

A 46 year old ski mountaineer was killed yesterday in the Sierra Nevada when he was caught in an avalanche and buried under 2m of snow. The accident happened on the western slopes near the Elorietta Hut.

Heavy snowfall down to 2500m

Reports suggest up to 40cm new snow fell on Saturday and Sunday. There is some drifting. The snow is wet and heavy, giving risk of avalanches. Mulhacen and weather update

Better cover on Rio Mulhacen and west flank of Mulhacen. The cold temps have helped consolidation. Rockfall danger still on N face of Mulhacen. New snow falling today (Sunday) and forecast snow for much of the week to come.

North Face Puntal de la Caldera and Mulhacen

North side of Sierra Nevada has good snow down to 2600m. South side patchy. Climbs on Puntal de la Caldera - mix of good hard snow and soft powder.  Mulhacen N face thin, some stonefall danger.

More snow needed!

With the recent high temps on the south side of the Sierra Nevada the snow level is 2800m or higher. On the northern slopes the snow is above 2600 and much more extensive.
